Mission Statement of Website

Details
Category: Mission website

Here is the mission statement: This website is for the SVES Volunteers.  It will be used to better communicate between members of the SVES team.

There are infrastructure costs involved in having a website, so until SVES is onboard with paying for some of the infrastructure, I'm not sure I'm willing to foot the bill for it all.  It's fairly minimal, for example it cost $120.00/year for hosting and then $15.00/ year for the URL svesqru.com Therefore at this point it would cost approximately $135.00/year for a website.  I of course am volunteering my time, expertise and my desire to have a better way to keep members informed.    I will need help to maintain and would like to train others on how to do website design using Joomla CMS.  Note:  Joomla is much more sophisticated than the website overnight drag and drop tools, such as WIX, Hostdinger, Site123 and on and on.....

It will be designed to ensure easy maintenance.  In other words, things change, but the website should not have to make tons of changes because of volunteers coming and going and such things.  So, thinking ahead, what things need to be on this website, and what should not be on this website?    Should there be logins for private areas that are not accessible to the public?

I am going to have to ask others to get involved.  I do not want to take this on by myself.  If you have a computer, the internet, can type and have ideas for the site then you can help.    If I'm the only one doing the all work,  then it will be fruitless when I kick the bucket, as sves might have to start over.   Hey, this is not the dinosaur age; we all should learn some part of website design.   I would really like to work with people who want to learn how to design a website, particularly using  Joomla.

The definition of Joomla means altogether as a community.   We need to work as a community to build this website.  Otherwise, it could fail.   There will be times I can't work on it, so others need to know how it is done and can take over if need be.  I will train you as best I can.   Who knows, this could turn out to be a new career for you.  There is a demand for Joomla administrators on various freelance websites, and the skills you learn will be for fun and profit.  Bottom line, I'm not doing this because I have too much time on my hands.  I have plenty of other things I can be doing!

Additionally, I would appreciate assistance with funding the infrastructure and, if necessary, extensions.   I don't mind spending my time doing this, but financially, I'm on a personal budget.  Therefore I need to be cognizant of how much time and money I volunteer.

If these things I've mentioned do not match what the SVES wants then I will go no further.   If it becomes too much of a burden because no one else wants to help or get involved,  then after one year from Oct. 13, 2025, I'll call it quits.

Thanks,   Bill Cory
